NIST Released Internet of Things Security Guidance

IOT devices are becoming more common throughout the world. Experts predict that the popularity of these devices only to grow, but in addition it will grow and the potential for abuse. US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at the end of last year issued new guidelines aimed at improving the safety of IoT. It was done partly in response to recent large DDoS attacks using IoT c botnets, as well as because of the serious security problems in the IoT devices.

DoS (a portmanteau of Denial of Service – Denial of Service) – hacker attack on a computer system with a view to bring it to the full, that is to create conditions under which conscientious users of the system can not get access to the provided system resources (servers), or this access is difficult. Currently, DoS and DDoS-attacks are the most popular, as they allow to bring to the failure of virtually any system, leaving no legally relevant evidence. Perhaps most frighteningly, DDoS attacks don’t always occur alone. In some cases, they may be used by cybercriminals to “smokescreen” another, more malicious attack with data theft.
